Children's Museum of the Lowcountry
Saturday morning we took the kids to the Children's Museum of the Lowcountry. It was a great hands-on experience for Ryan. He was the captain of a shrimp boat and even caught a few. Lilly didn't like being a knight, but I believe she's looking at the princess costume in the last picture. Can you believe how grown up she looks? :)
Oh, I almost forgot. See the bandaid on Ryan's head? How can you miss it, right? He did not get that from falling off the bed while jumping on it. He was walking in our hotel room, stumbled and hit the door frame to the bathroom door. There was talk of a trip to the emergency room, but Dr. Freeman gave me a lesson on scars and convinced me that it would be okay. He was right. Ryan cried for a few minutes, but once we got him clean and got Mommy calm, he was ready to play again.
I bet the staff at the Embassy Suites was glad to see us leave. We must have called them a half dozen times. We were always needing something!!
Friday afternoon the kids and I were in the room. Lilly was sleeping in the living room and Ryan and I were in the bedroom. He was watching TV and I was reading. I had the door locked, but had removed the chain because I was expecting Rourk to return to the room for lunch at any moment. Ryan goes into the living room, but I continue reading.
I heard the door open. I heard the door close.
It took two seconds for the meaning of this to register in my mind. I bolted out of the bed and I ran out the door and into the hall way. Ryan was about to push the "down" elevator button when I got to him. The elevator doors were across the hall from our room, not far, so don't panic thinking he'd treked down the hall and around a corner. NO nothing like that, just a few short feet.
I turned around just in time to see the door to our room close and lock. I simultaneously remembered I didn't have a key with me. I didn't have on shoes either. Better yet, Ryan doesn't have on pants, just a t-shirt and a pull-up. Lilly's in the room alone, but thankfully still sleeping. I stood by the door holding Ryan's hand and thinking about what I should do about this situation. Go to housekeeping? Wait for Rourk? Go downstairs and get a key?
I decided to go downstairs, because I wasn't sure exactly how long it would be before Rourk returned to the room. Believe me, when you are standing in the hall with no shoes and your kid is wearing a pull up, a minute turns into eternity. I also figured housekeeping would send me downstairs anyway. You know, security being like it is these days. The Embassy Suites is mostly for the business traveler or that's the way it was on Friday; every business man in the hotel must have been milling around the lobby that day. Ryan and I received a few sideways glances, and I had to stop the clerk in mid-sentence to keep from hearing stories about her own children. I didn't mean to be rude, but I didn't have time for all that since Lilly was upstairs.
I got a key. We hurried upstairs. I immediately locked and chained the door. Lilly was still sleeping. I fell onto the couch and breathed a sigh of relief.
