I seldom think about what our service men and women are doing for our country. I've become complacent about the sacrifice they make for all of us so we can be safe here at home and in other countries around the world.
This morning I received an e-mail from a couple that we became friends with while Rourk was in dental school. I knew that the husband had been sent to Iraq over a year ago, but for some reason I thought he had been returned home back in the spring. Joel actually returned yesterday from a 15 month deployment to Iraq. That's 15 months away from his wife, his three small children and his life with them. It makes teary-eyed just thinking about about all the "firsts" that he missed while he was away. I am also in awe of Kathi. I know her faith carried her through this tough time.
So, I wish them and all the other military personnel a Merry Christmas. May you be safe and truly blessed this season.
