Week at the Beach.

The pictures below were taken Friday night. We didn't get to Myrtle Beach until after 4pm and by the time we ate dinner and took the kids down to the water it was starting to cool down outside, thus the reason they are wearing jackets. Ryan loved the beach as he always does, but looking back I think Lilly was just happy to be out of the van. She never managed the same enthusiasm in subsequent trips.

We spent Saturday and Sunday running between the beach and the swimming pool. I am glad we took advantage of the warmish weather because by the first of the week the temperatures took a nose dive. I believe it was in the 40s on Monday and Tuesday morning and in the 30s on Wednesday. Brrrrrr.

I packed all wrong for the trip despite checking the forecast before we left for our trip. What we needed was jeans and long sleeves, not shorts and t-shirts. Thankfully we had a washer and dryer in our condo.

As I mentioned it was in the 40s when we got up on Monday morning, so we decided to go to Ripley's Aquarium. It was an okay aquarium, but to be honest we spent $50.00 so the kids could run around some place warm for a few hours. It was an expensive indoor playground. I can't tell you much about the exhibits other than what I read in the guidebook after we got back to the condo. I'm sure I am being a bit hard on the place, but with a 17 month old and a 4 year old it is what it is.

Tuesday Rourk took Ryan to see Horton Hears a Who. I stayed at the condo with Lilly. The last movie we took her to see was Bee Movie and Rourk spent most of his time in the lobby with her. We decided we'd take her to another movie when she's around ten. You think I am kidding; I am not.

Oh, and Lilly's eardrum burst sometime during the week. I know it is shocking to hear that I can't pinpoint when this might have happened, but I would have never known if it weren't for seeing fluid (that's an understatement) running out of her right ear on Wednesday night. I felt like a terrible mother for a day or so, but after thinking back on it, I realize this lack of knowledge is a good thing because it means it didn't bother Lilly. I called the pediatricians office and she called in an antibiotic. She also explained that the infection probably progressed very rapidly and once the eardrum burst any discomfort Lilly may have been feeling was relieved. That's good to know; I guess.

Despite all of this we enjoyed our vacation. I for one enjoyed getting away from home and the office. It was nice sitting on the couch and not feeling as if I should be doing something. I also enjoyed spending time together as a family. That time is getting more and more precious to me as I watch my children literally grow before my eyes.

Ripley's stinks. I grew up with the Baltimore Aquarium so that is what I was expecting, and that is soooo not what we got.

Sorry your vacation was not so much fun. Sounds like ours last summer, when we all had the stomach flu. Also, I am not so much sold on this vacationing with kids thing, especially at places like the beach. It's just so much work.
