I love to read and I spend as much of my spare time reading as possible. Recently I had read just about everything in the house worth reading: magazines, newspapers, books. It's during times like these that I find myself wondering around looking for something to read and becoming disappointed when I pick up National Geographic and realize that I have read it from cover to cover including the article about flesh eating ants.
That's when I turn to reading blogs. I have actually become an avid reader of several. They are always available ( no late fees like at the library) and despite the fact that there are some terrible blogs on the net; there are also many very good ones. One that I found by chance is 1000 Days Non-Stop at Sea It is about a couple aboard the Schooner Anne and their quest to stay at sea 1000 days without stopping. The writing isn't anything special. I think I enjoy just being a privy to their life and the fact that they are doing something that I would never attempt. I can live vicariously while they are at sea.
Another favorite is Babylust. I don't know this woman personally, but found her blog by mistake while searching for Down syndrome and grief. I was actually looking for articles about how people with Down syndrome grieve. Her blog came up and I've been reading it for over six months now. She has experienced multiple miscarriages and is currently pregnant. Her story is not so far from my own. I go to her sight everyday and secretly send her best wishes, cheering her on in hopes that she too can deliver a little miracle in 9 months.
I have mentioned Anne's blog on several occassions. Yes, she's a friend of mine and yes, sometime I know her stories first hand, but I love reading about them. I love how she's able to put words together and bring her family to life simply through her blog. She always does such a wonderful job expressing her feelings honestly about a topic. I believe that takes courage; especially since Blogs are so public. I often finish reading an entry and find myself agreeing with her, but wishing I had just half of her literary skills. (Did you know that Anne? Have you ever thought about writing a book?) I laugh and admit to myself that I'm a thinker not a writer.
I just finished reading this book. I liked it and would recommend it if you are looking for an easy read.
I am now reading this one, but I am having a hard time not falling asleep after just a few pages each night. At this rate it will take me until the end of the year to finish it.
