When I was a child I overheard a conversation between my parents. I remember them asking each other, "Where were you when President John F. Kennedy was shot?" The only response that I can recall was the one my father gave--he said he was watching Gun Smoke when the local news anchor broke in to report that Kennedy had been shot.
I hope one day that someone will find the events of today a conversation piece. I hope that one day conversation will start by people asking, "Where were you when Barack Obama was sworn in as the 44th President of the United States?" My answer will be simple-- I will say that I was watching television at Rourk's office and that as I walked between operatories trying not to miss the coverage I was moved to tears by President Obama's words of hope and encouragement.
I am usually cynical when it comes to politics, but for the first time in many years I am hopeful. I hope our new president can create change. I pray that he can and that our great nation can be restored for of us and generations to come.
